France’s civil aviation authority has ordered airlines to scale back operations at Paris’s main airports on Sunday, citing forecasts of snow and icy conditions expected to disrupt travel across much of the country’s north.

In a statement issued Saturday, the Direction générale de l'aviation civile (DGAC) called for a 30 percent reduction in flights during peak hours at Charles de Gaulle Airport and a 20 percent cut at Orly Airport. The precautionary measures are intended to ease congestion and enhance safety amid anticipated winter weather conditions.

Authorities advised passengers scheduled to travel on Sunday to check directly with their airlines before heading to the airports, warning that delays and cancellations are likely.

Weather forecasters predict widespread snowfall across northern France, with icy surfaces potentially affecting runways, roads, and rail networks. Transport officials say the measures are designed to minimise disruption while ensuring safe aircraft operations during the adverse conditions.

The temporary restrictions underscore the vulnerability of air travel to severe winter weather, particularly at major European hubs where high traffic volumes can quickly amplify delays.
