Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone, the 50-year-old producer argued that many older individuals may be regarded as wise simply because of their experiences, which are sometimes outdated or irrelevant. He emphasized that true wisdom should be measured by competence and growth rather than years lived.
“The assumption that the older you get, the wiser you are is an assumption that has never been true. I am not saying older people are not smart or wise. But most times, people see themselves as wiser because they are more experienced, not competent. And a lot of the experiences that you are bringing are obsolete,” Cabasa said.
He added that personal growth is key to genuine wisdom. Simply aging without evolving intellectually or professionally does not automatically make someone wiser. Cabasa also highlighted generational shifts, pointing out that younger generations may adopt new tools and technologies more naturally, while older individuals sometimes rely on outdated frameworks.
“If you are growing as a person, there is a tendency that as you get older, you are going to be wiser. But that isn’t the case if you are not growing but just aging,” he said.
Cabasa concluded that respect and recognition should not be demanded solely based on age but earned through competence and continuous personal development.
