In a statement issued Monday, the regulator assured passengers that flight backlogs are being cleared in a prioritised and systematic manner. According to KCAA, operations are gradually stabilising, with normal schedules expected to resume as soon as possible.

Safety Not Compromised
Despite the operational challenges, KCAA emphasised that aviation safety standards remain fully intact. The regulator confirmed that all aircraft movements continue to be managed in accordance with established aviation safety protocols.
Passengers have been advised to confirm their flight status directly with their respective airlines before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.
Strike Disrupts Multiple Airports
The industrial action, led by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), has affected operations at several airports across the country. In western Kenya, flights to and from Kisumu International Airport were disrupted, leaving dozens of passengers stranded.
Union officials attribute the go-slow to unresolved grievances, including poor working conditions, delayed salary payments, and concerns over restructuring within the aviation sector.
At Kisumu’s terminal, passengers expressed frustration as airline counters struggled to provide timely updates. Taxi operators outside the airport also reported significant financial losses due to reduced passenger traffic.
Kenya Airways Activates Contingency Measures
Amid the disruptions, Kenya Airways urged travellers to frequently check their flight status after KCAA activated contingency protocols to manage the situation.
In a statement, the national carrier encouraged passengers to use its website, mobile app, and official communication channels for real-time updates. The airline said it is working closely with KCAA and other relevant authorities to manage delays and maintain passenger safety.
Kenya Airways further advised travellers to arrive early at airports and remain flexible, noting that flight schedules may be adjusted to accommodate operational constraints. It reiterated its commitment to minimising disruptions and providing assistance through its customer care channels.

KCAA has pledged continued collaboration with aviation stakeholders to ensure a smooth and orderly restoration of services across affected airports.
