Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has been commended for its ₦1 billion donation to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), a move described as a significant boost to public safety and security infrastructure in the state.

The commendation came from the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, who praised Globacom for what he described as a strong demonstration of corporate citizenship and an enduring commitment to national development. According to him, the donation reflects the company’s recognition of security as a critical foundation for economic growth and social stability.

Globacom’s contribution followed its participation in the LSSTF-organised Private Sector Breakfast Meeting with Chief Executive Officers, recently hosted by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The high-level engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between government and the private sector in addressing security challenges, driving innovation, and building economic resilience—areas in which Globacom has maintained consistent involvement through sustained social investments.

Describing the donation as “a strategic investment in the stability of Lagos State,” Ogunsan noted that the LSSTF was established to bridge funding gaps in security infrastructure and depends largely on voluntary contributions from corporate organisations and development partners.

He explained that the ₦1 billion donation would significantly enhance the Fund’s capacity to meet key security priorities outlined for 2026. These include the acquisition of multipurpose security helicopters and drones, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), water cannons, digital communication equipment, and Smart CCTV systems. According to him, these assets are critical to strengthening proactive policing, improving rapid response capabilities, and supporting intelligence-led security operations across Lagos State.

Reacting to the development, Globacom said the donation aligns with its long-standing belief in Nigeria’s future and the role of shared responsibility in nation-building. In a statement, the company stressed that security is not solely the responsibility of government.

“At Globacom, we see security not as a government burden alone, but as a shared responsibility,” the statement said. “When people feel safe, enterprise grows, creativity flourishes, and hope becomes practical. Our support for the LSSTF is about protecting the everyday dreams of millions of Lagosians.”

The donation further reinforces the growing role of private sector participation in strengthening public security and highlights the importance of sustained partnerships between government and businesses in addressing complex societal challenges.
