The legal team representing Sophia Momodu, the estranged partner of Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido, has issued a stern warning to the singer and his supporters following a series of controversial posts on social media regarding their ongoing child custody proceedings.
In a statement released on Monday, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors condemned what it described as “all manner of inflammatory public statements” directed at their partner, Ebelechukwu Enedah, in relation to her professional conduct in the case currently before a Lagos State court.
The firm emphasized that the matter remains sub judice and must be resolved solely by the court, based on evidence and legal principles. It cautioned that attempts to intimidate or harass legal practitioners risk undermining the integrity of the judicial system.
“Our attention has been drawn to statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our partner arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State,” the statement read.
Punuka Attorneys further stressed: “If legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled.”
The warning follows a series of social media posts by Davido last Friday, in which he criticized what he described as “insensitive remarks regarding his deceased son” during cross-examination. In one widely circulated Instagram post, the singer expressed anger at Enedah, calling her “wicked” and “the worst lawyer ever,” and claiming that he had “beaten” her in court.
The posts inadvertently implicated gospel musician Tosin Bee, whose social media accounts were temporarily inundated with messages. Tosin Bee later clarified the misunderstanding, stating that the singer had mistaken him for someone else.
The backlash prompted Enedah to restrict access to her social media accounts, setting them to private. Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors reiterated its commitment to protecting the safety and professional integrity of legal practitioners, urging the Nigerian Bar Association and the wider legal community to condemn any attempts to interfere with judicial proceedings.
“Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors will deploy every lawful measure available to it to resist any attempt to intimidate counsel or undermine judicial proceedings,” the statement said. “Those who engage in conduct calculated to interfere with the administration of justice will be met with the full consequences provided by law.”
Earlier reports indicated that Davido confirmed on X that he would be withdrawing the custody case, clarifying that he had never sought full custody of his daughter, but rather joint custody. In his post, he expressed disappointment with recent court developments and described one aspect of the proceedings as a “lowest blow,” referring to references made to his deceased son.
Davido’s initial filing at the Lagos State High Court sought joint custody of his daughter, a move that has now been resolved following his decision to step back from the legal battle.
