Nollywood is witnessing another robust box office performance as Love and New Notes, starring Timini Egbuson, raked in approximately N106.5 million over its opening weekend, according to Nigerian box office reports for February 13–15. The romantic drama grossed N103.9 million on its first day alone, signaling the actor’s continued pull as a bankable lead in the industry.

The figures place the film among the stronger opening releases of the year, demonstrating resilience amid a crowded domestic market. Analysts suggest that Egbuson’s track record and the film’s nostalgic 1980s setting have contributed to its early success.

Directed by Kayode Kasum and penned by Stephen Okonkwo, Love and New Notes is set in 1984 Nigeria. It follows Boma, a young man navigating love, career choices, and the broader societal challenges of an era marked by economic shifts and currency reforms. The film blends romance with social commentary, offering insight into how personal decisions influence relationships and long-term outcomes.

The movie premiered in Lagos on Sunday evening with a high-profile event hosted by Egbuson. The premiere drew an array of Nollywood stars, musicians, and media personalities, underscoring the industry excitement surrounding the release. Notable attendees included music executive Don Jazzy, actress Funke Akindele, actor Lateef Adedimeji, and singer Lil Kesh. Members of the cast and production team, including Odunlade Adekola, Ayoola Akinyoola, Sophie Alakija, Eniola Badmus, Toluwani George, Constance Owoiyomi, Iyiola Elvis, and Tolu Babs Omish, were also present. The evening featured a celebratory moment when Sophie Alakija received a surprise birthday tribute.

Co-produced by FilmOne Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment in partnership with FilmTribe Media, the film secured wide cinema placement across Nigeria and Ghana. The opening weekend adds to Egbuson’s growing box office momentum following his 2024 hit Reel Love, which grossed over N200 million within three weeks after an N40.5 million debut day. That film recorded N123.2 million in its first week, with an opening weekend total of N99.3 million, cementing Egbuson’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful actors.
