Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has dismissed claims that he has been blacklisted by some of the country’s top music industry figures.

The controversy began after popular influencer Tunde Perry revealed that he attended a meeting where leading music executives allegedly discussed blacklisting Portable over alleged “gross misconduct.” Perry claimed that the singer’s actions had not only affected his reputation but also discouraged established artists from mentoring emerging talent.

Perry further alleged that ace rapper and music executive Olamide had become cautious about assisting up-and-coming artists after his experience with Portable, who reportedly turned critical of him following his breakthrough track Zazu.

In response, Portable released a video in which he directly addressed Perry, Olamide, and the purported executives. The singer asserted that he does not rely on support from industry executives to succeed, insisting that his fanbase alone is enough to sustain his career.

“I am bigger than them. Who are those who want to blacklist? I heard that Tunde Perry said Olamide and his circle of music executives called for me to be blacklisted. Are you guys my fans or my God? Are you feeding me?” Portable said.

The Zazu crooner added: “I have my own fans. I am bigger than any person. Anyone who wants to help you won’t stress you. Don’t use the assistance you gave me in the past to stress me. Are you the only one who has ever assisted me? There are a lot of people who helped me without stressing me. Why would you say they shouldn’t play my songs again? Olamide, don’t mess with me. If you mess with me, I will return the energy. Stay on your own lane.”

Portable’s remarks underscore his continued confidence and independence within the Nigerian music industry, despite the allegations of blacklisting by influential figures.
