Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has once again praised new signing Ademola Lookman for his intelligent playmaking, while noting that the team is still finding the best way to integrate him into the squad.

Lookman, who joined Atletico during the winter transfer window, made an immediate impact in his debut on Thursday night in the Copa del Rey at Estadio La Cartuja. The Nigerian forward scored a goal and assisted another as Atletico cruised to a 5-0 victory, securing a place in the semifinals.

Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash against Real Betis, Simeone emphasized that both Lookman and the team are still adjusting to each other. “We’ll try to get to know each other better. He will start understanding the team, and we will learn about his abilities,” the Argentine coach said, as quoted by Fichajes.

Simeone highlighted Lookman’s attacking vision and creativity, adding that the coaching staff is exploring how best to utilize his strengths. “He has the vision to attack, and we will work with the team to find the best approach,” he said.

Lookman featured alongside Antoine Griezmann in the Copa del Rey win, with forwards Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth absent. With both players set to return for the match against Betis, Simeone will have additional tactical options as he continues to determine Lookman’s ideal role within the team.

The early signs suggest that Lookman’s skill set could become a key asset for Atletico Madrid as Simeone balances his attacking options and integrates the Nigerian forward into the squad’s dynamic.
