Finalised barely months after the division’s launch in September 2025, the deal positions Trino Motion Pictures as the sales agent responsible for structuring the film’s pathway into Nigerian cinemas. It also establishes an early benchmark for the division’s mandate to connect African content with sustainable commercial outlets across multiple distribution windows.
To Adaego with Love arrives with strong critical credentials. Produced by Tade Production House Limited, the film emerged as a double winner at AFRIFF 2025, taking home awards for Best Feature Film and Best Screenplay. Directed by Nwamaka Chikezie and written and produced by Brenda Ogbukaa-Garuba, the film is a post-Civil War romantic drama that blends personal intimacy with national reflection.
Set against the fragile backdrop of post-war reconciliation, the story explores a forbidden romance between a Northern soldier and an Eastern schoolteacher, using their relationship as a lens to examine identity, trauma, and healing in a divided society. The cast includes Chisom Agoawuike, Adam Garba, and Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, alongside a memorable appearance by the late Onyeka Onwenu.
The film premiered on February 1, 2026, ahead of its nationwide theatrical release scheduled for February 6, 2026. Its cinema rollout now becomes the first market-facing outcome of Trino Motion Pictures’ Content Acquisition and Sales division, setting the tone for future deal-making efforts.
Speaking on the milestone, Uche Okocha, Managing Director of Trino Motion Pictures, described the agreement as both a validation of the company’s strategy and a statement of intent. According to him, the company’s focus is on ensuring African stories are widely seen and easily accessible across screens, with the new division designed to make that goal commercially viable rather than aspirational.
The Content Acquisition and Sales arm was established to curate high-quality African stories with global appeal, while actively pursuing local and international distribution, licensing, and exhibition opportunities. By representing filmmakers in structured negotiations, the division aims to professionalise the sales process and reduce the burden on producers navigating an increasingly complex marketplace.
With the theatrical deal for To Adaego with Love, Trino Motion Pictures reinforces its commitment to building sustainable commercial pathways for African cinema—supporting not just creative output, but the business infrastructure required to carry those stories to audiences.
As the company continues to grow its footprint across production, content acquisition, and sales, this first agreement underscores its evolving role in strengthening the economic backbone of African storytelling, one carefully brokered deal at a time.
