Popular Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has stirred conversation on social media after sharing her views on what she believes is the leading cause of divorce.

In a post on her Instagram page, the movie star asserted that men are largely responsible for failed marriages, claiming they account for “95 per cent” of marital breakdowns.

According to Ogbodo, many unions collapse due to patterns of neglect, infidelity, emotional abuse and betrayal by husbands.

“Men contribute 95 per cent in failed marriages,” she wrote. “Many marriages fail because a significant number of men neglect, cheat, devalue, emotionally harm, emotionally stress, or betray their wives.”

She further argued that a lack of accountability within relationships — and in society at large — has allowed such behaviour to persist, thereby contributing to the rising rate of separation and divorce.

Ogbodo, who is currently in her second marriage, tied the knot with her partner and second baby daddy, Boby Maris, in October 2023. Her first marriage to Norway-based football agent Ato Ubby in 2013 ended less than a year after it was contracted.

Her remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing with her stance, while others argue that responsibility for marital success or failure lies with both partners.
