The Turkish champions produced back-to-back statement victories, dismantling Eyüpspor 5–1 in the Turkish Super Lig before overturning expectations with a commanding 5–2 win over Juventus F.C. at Rams Park in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout play-off.
Across the two fixtures, Osimhen registered four assists, underlining his growing tactical importance. While he did not score in either match, his relentless pressing, intelligent positioning and unselfish link-up play were central to Galatasaray’s attacking fluency both domestically and on the European stage.
A Broader Contribution
Osimhen’s overall numbers this season remain impressive. The 27-year-old has recorded 15 goal contributions across the Super Lig and Champions League — nine goals and three assists in the league, alongside six goals and two assists in Europe. His European tally places him among the continent’s most productive forwards this campaign.
Yet beyond statistics, it is his adaptability that stands out. Speaking after the victory over Juventus, Osimhen reflected on his evolving role within the team’s structure.
“Pressing is normal for me. I just try to fight for the team and so far, so good. With my pressing, I’ve been able to get some assists, which I think is very good. Above all, I am happy about the win,” he said.
His mentality was evident during the dramatic European encounter. After Galatasaray restored their lead, Osimhen grabbed the ball to restart play quickly, urging his teammates forward rather than protecting a slender advantage.
“After the third goal, I took the ball because 2–3 isn’t enough against these teams,” he explained. “We know their capacity to pull off a surprise. You need to score more goals. I carried the ball to motivate the team. We could have scored more. There’s a second match.”
Focus on the Job Ahead
Despite holding a three-goal cushion heading into the return leg in Italy, Osimhen insists complacency will not creep in.
“I’m very happy with the performance we showed as a team. Our coach’s plan worked and we will approach the second leg the same way. It won’t be an easy match, but we have the advantage. It was a very important victory. Thank you to our fans.
“I’m proud of my team. Everyone was great. Without the support of our fans, this wouldn’t have been possible.”
Before attention shifts fully to the decisive European tie, Galatasaray must refocus on domestic duties with a trip to Konyaspor as they seek to preserve their lead at the summit of the Turkish Super Lig.
For Osimhen, whether scoring or supplying, the objective remains the same: driving his side forward in pursuit of silverware on all fronts.
