Afrobeats singer Cross “Kwate” David has unveiled his upcoming project titled From Me To You while also pledging support for charitable causes in Nigeria through a collaboration with the Omooba Foundation.

As part of his initiative to give back, Kwate has called on the foundation to donate ₦5 million to assist underprivileged communities across the country. Speaking on the project, the artiste explained that his personal journey in the music industry inspired him to support those facing challenges similar to those he encountered early in his career.

“I have always been a fighter for success. The road to greatness in life is narrow. I started music during the era of CDs, when we had to promote our songs from one radio station to another. It was not easy, but I kept pushing, and today I give God the glory for the progress,” Kwate said.

The artiste noted that the growing popularity of his recent releases on digital platforms, including features on Apple Music playlists and social media trending charts, motivated him to extend assistance to the less privileged.

“The universe has favoured me, and I believe it is important to support the community that helped shape my career. That is why I decided to work with the Omooba Foundation to assist those in need,” he added.

A Journey from Edo State to International Recognition

Kwate, also known as Omini Kwate, hails from Edo State but currently resides in the United States. He is known for blending Afrobeats with elements of hip-hop and dancehall—a versatile style that has earned him recognition across Africa, Europe, and the United States.

His musical journey began in Edo State before he relocated to Lagos in 1998 to advance his career. He gained national attention in 2010 with the release of Party Dey Here from his debut album Tami Lorobo. In 2012, he collaborated with singer Jawo on Baby Give Me More, a track that earned him multiple award nominations.

Kwate won the Best New Artist of the Year award at the 2013 Global Excellence Awards, presented by entertainment personalities Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye. His international profile continued to grow with nominations at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and the African Entertainment Awards Malaysia in 2014. He later served as a brand ambassador for a Malaysian telecommunications company, where one of his songs was adopted as a caller tune.

After a brief hiatus, Kwate returned to the music scene in 2024 with the single On Ground, featuring Black IQ, later remixed with contributions from rapper Magnito and singer Portable. In November 2024, he achieved a career milestone by performing as the opening act for Afrobeats star Davido at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Building a Global Presence

Kwate has steadily increased his visibility in the U.S., attending the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, participating in NBA-related events in Oakland, and giving interviews to iHeartRadio. His tracks are reportedly receiving airplay on major radio stations across the United States, further cementing his international presence.

Industry insiders report that Kwate is currently preparing to release his new extended play project, From Me To You, a venture that combines his musical ambitions with social impact initiatives aimed at uplifting less privileged communities in Nigeria.
