The initiative, described by observers as one of the most ambitious constituency-based interventions in the area, combined skills development with clean-energy mobility support. According to a statement from the senator’s media office, the beneficiaries underwent intensive technical and operational training prior to receiving the vehicles.
The training was facilitated by professional engineers from the Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC), who equipped participants with the knowledge required to safely operate, manage and maintain electric vehicles (EVs). The project was fully funded by the senator.
Focus on Skills and Sustainability
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that the programme was designed to go beyond simple distribution of assets. She noted that the world is transitioning toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions, positioning electric vehicles as central to the future of transportation.
According to her, EV adoption represents not only environmental responsibility but also economic opportunity. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels and encouraging technological adaptation, the initiative aims to create new income streams and expand local participation in emerging industries.
She added that the empowerment effort aligns with her broader legislative agenda of promoting innovation, strengthening local capacity and advancing economic development within Kogi Central.
Creating Livelihoods, Not Just Ownership
The senator stressed that the programme’s core objective is sustainable livelihood creation. By ensuring that beneficiaries were comprehensively trained by professionals, she said the initiative prioritizes competence, safety and long-term viability.
Participants were urged to approach the opportunity with discipline and responsibility, particularly regarding road safety. She advised beneficiaries to avoid speeding, adhere strictly to traffic regulations and maintain the vehicles properly to ensure durability and safety.
Beyond personal gain, Akpoti-Uduaghan encouraged recipients to adopt a community-oriented mindset. She called on them to use the vehicles to support their families, contribute to local economic activity and inspire others across the district.
A Forward-Looking Intervention
The event concluded on an emotional note, with the senator offering prayers for protection, prosperity and continued development for the people of Kogi Central.
Political observers and community stakeholders described the initiative as a forward-thinking blend of environmental sustainability and economic empowerment. The distribution of electric vehicles adds to a growing list of constituency development projects under her tenure, reinforcing an emphasis on innovation-driven empowerment and responsible leadership.
As Nigeria gradually explores cleaner energy pathways, the programme positions Kogi Central among districts experimenting with practical, community-level adoption of electric mobility — linking global environmental trends with grassroots economic advancement.
