The Spanish full-back delivered an impressive performance at left-back during the match played on Saturday, March 14, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, contributing both defensively and offensively as Los Blancos secured all three points.
The victory allowed Real Madrid to close the gap on league leaders FC Barcelona to just one point in the title race. Barcelona will look to restore their four-point lead when they face Sevilla FC on Sunday, March 15.
Arbeloa commends García’s attitude
Speaking after the game, Arbeloa singled out García for special praise, describing him as a model professional who maintains a high level in training despite limited playing opportunities.
According to comments reported by Madrid Xtra, the Real Madrid coach said:
“Fran García? I must express my gratitude to him. He is an exceptional professional. It is not easy to maintain the level that Fran achieves daily, especially without regular playtime. He trains excellently and is always there for his teammates, maintaining a positive attitude. I wish I had 25 players like Fran.”
Reduced role this season
García’s playing time has been limited this season following the summer arrival of Álvaro Carreras at the Bernabéu. The 26-year-old has largely served as the backup option at left-back, making 17 appearances across all competitions and starting only seven matches.
Despite the reduced minutes, the defender has continued to show reliability when called upon.
From academy graduate to key squad player
The attacking full-back is a product of Real Madrid’s academy but initially struggled to break into the senior team, making just one appearance before moving to Rayo Vallecano.
His strong performances at the Madrid-based club eventually convinced Real Madrid to bring him back in 2023. Since returning to his boyhood side, García has accumulated 102 appearances for Los Blancos.
Strong display against Elche
In the win over Elche, García produced an all-round performance. He registered seven defensive contributions, had one shot on target and provided an assist.
The left-back also completed six passes into the final third, created a scoring chance and delivered two accurate long balls — a display that earned him praise from his manager and highlighted his value to the squad despite limited starting opportunities.
