Nigerian music star Asake has shared details of a past rift with his father, revealing that his decision to pursue a career in music was strongly opposed at home.

Speaking in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Sungba” crooner recounted how his once-close relationship with his father became strained when he chose to follow his passion against parental wishes.

According to the singer, tensions arose when he expressed his desire to leave home and focus on building a career in music, a move his father did not support. Despite the opposition, Asake said he went ahead with his decision, leaving home to chase his dreams.

He recalled that the disagreement marked a turning point in their relationship, creating distance between them after years of closeness during his early life.

The revelation comes months after the singer’s family situation drew public attention. In March 2025, his father, Fatai Odunsi, made headlines with claims of neglect and abandonment, sparking widespread reactions across social media.

The situation was later resolved, with Asake reconciling with his father and reportedly taking steps to support his welfare, signalling a mended relationship after the earlier fallout.

His comments add to a broader narrative often shared by artists about the personal sacrifices and family tensions that can accompany the pursuit of creative careers.
