Barcelona star Raphinha was substituted at half-time during Brazil’s friendly defeat to France on Thursday after experiencing minor muscle discomfort, leaving the club cautious about his fitness ahead of key fixtures following the international break.

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the winger’s issue, saying: “Raphinha played very well, then he had a problem at the end of the first half and we had to change him. His muscle bothered him a little, and I think they’re going to evaluate him tomorrow.” Raphinha is now expected to undergo tests to determine the severity of the problem.

The 26-year-old winger has experienced intermittent fitness issues this season but was in excellent form prior to the break, scoring a hat-trick against Sevilla in La Liga and contributing two goals and two assists in Barcelona’s Champions League victory over Newcastle United.

Barcelona will be hoping the problem is minor, allowing Raphinha to return quickly and maintain his momentum ahead of a congested run of domestic and European fixtures.
