In a significant move for Nigeria’s fast-growing gig economy, Chowdeck has announced a strategic partnership with MyCoverGenius to provide personal accident insurance for more than 20,000 riders across its platform.

The agreement, which took effect in November 2025, ensures that every active Chowdeck rider is automatically enrolled in a comprehensive personal accident insurance plan powered by MyCoverGenius. The coverage includes protection against accidental medical expenses, temporary disability, and other critical risks associated with delivery work. By embedding insurance directly into its rider ecosystem, Chowdeck is establishing a new benchmark for welfare standards within Nigeria’s on-demand delivery industry.

Raising the Bar for Rider Welfare

As on-demand services continue to expand across Africa, the conversation around worker protection has become increasingly urgent. In Nigeria, recent data shows that 64 percent of location-based gig workers report that income earned from digital platforms makes a meaningful contribution to their household finances. However, with increased activity on the roads comes heightened exposure to risk.

Chowdeck’s latest initiative addresses this challenge head-on. The company, which currently serves more than two million customers, relies on its extensive rider network to maintain the speed and reliability that have become synonymous with its brand. By securing structured insurance coverage for its riders, the platform is reinforcing its commitment to safety, dignity, and long-term sustainability within the gig economy.

Umar Nasir, Head of Operations at Chowdeck, described the partnership as a defining moment for the company and the broader delivery ecosystem. He noted that riders are central to Chowdeck’s operations and that the collaboration goes beyond compliance or corporate responsibility. According to him, the goal is to set a higher standard for how African delivery platforms protect and support their workforce, ensuring riders feel secure while carrying out their daily responsibilities.

Expanding Access to Inclusive Insurance

For MyCoverGenius, the collaboration aligns with its broader mission of democratizing access to insurance through digital innovation. By integrating coverage directly into Chowdeck’s operational framework, the insurtech company is extending meaningful protection to thousands of gig workers who might otherwise lack structured safety nets.

Adebowale Banjo, Chief Executive Officer of MyCoverGenius, emphasized that the partnership demonstrates how technology-driven platforms can seamlessly incorporate insurance solutions in ways that create tangible social impact. He highlighted the company’s focus on delivering accessible, relevant, and affordable insurance products tailored to the realities of everyday Nigerians.

Building a Sustainable Delivery Ecosystem

Founded in October 2021, Chowdeck has rapidly grown into one of Nigeria’s most trusted delivery platforms. Beyond logistics, the company provides integrated solutions that combine smart routing, seamless payments, inventory management, and real-time performance tools. This infrastructure enables thousands of merchants to operate more efficiently while serving millions of customers.

The collaboration with MyCoverGenius signals a broader shift within the on-demand sector — one where growth is matched with responsibility. As Africa’s digital economy continues to mature, initiatives like this may become a blueprint for how gig platforms can balance scale with social protection.

By placing rider wellbeing at the heart of its operational strategy, Chowdeck is not only strengthening its internal ecosystem but also contributing to a more resilient and inclusive future for the continent’s gig workforce.
