Michael Jackson’s ‘The Essential’ Hits 250 Weeks on U.K. Albums Chart
Decades after his peak, Michael Jackson continues to dominate the U.K. music landscape, with one of his most popular compilations reaching a major milestone on the Official Albums Chart.
The Essential Michael Jackson climbs from No. 7 to No. 6 on this week’s chart, marking its 250th week on the ranking — a rare achievement that underscores the enduring appeal of Jackson’s catalog. The compilation, which features many of his most iconic songs, remains a consistent presence in the top 10 thanks largely to strong streaming and continued fan engagement.
Joining an Elite Group of Jackson Releases
Only two other Jackson projects have reached or surpassed the 250-week milestone in the U.K. His landmark album Thriller has spent 264 weeks on the chart, maintaining its status as his longest-charting studio album.
Meanwhile, Number Ones stands as his most enduring release overall, with an impressive 588 weeks on the chart — though it is not currently in the latest top 100.
More Classics Still Climbing
Other albums from Jackson’s catalog continue to post strong long-term performances. Off the Wall is approaching the 250-week mark, with 225 weeks so far. Fan favorites Bad and Dangerous have also enjoyed extended runs, with 184 and 182 weeks respectively.
Streaming Keeps the Catalog Alive
Beyond the main albums chart, The Essential remains a powerhouse on the Official Albums Streaming Chart, holding steady at No. 4. It is also nearing another milestone, with 200 weeks among the most-streamed albums in the U.K. on platforms like Spotify.
Bad also appears on the streaming ranking, though it sits at the bottom position this week.
Sales Charts Presence Continues
Although not currently on the main albums chart, Number Ones continues to perform across sales-focused rankings, including the Official Albums Sales, Physical Albums, and Downloads charts, despite slipping in positions.
Jackson’s continued chart success highlights the lasting global influence of his music, with multiple generations still driving streams, sales, and chart longevity well into 2026.
