Speaking during an interview, the wife of Enoch Adeboye recounted how her lifestyle changed after becoming a born-again Christian and joining the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
According to her, she had a strong interest in fashion prior to her conversion, but gave it up in adherence to the church’s teachings at the time, which discouraged the wearing of earrings and similar adornments.
Adeboye explained that she made the decision to dispose of her jewellery, including pieces she had acquired for her child, because she believed they no longer aligned with her new faith and values. She said the items were thrown into a lagoon as a symbolic act of commitment.
She also recalled being questioned by a family acquaintance, who suggested that the jewellery could have been given to her mother to sell rather than being discarded. However, Adeboye maintained that her decision was guided by conviction, noting that anything she considered inappropriate for herself would also be unsuitable for her loved ones.
Reflecting on the experience, she expressed no regret over the decision, emphasising that she does not feel a sense of loss and remains content with the choice she made as part of her spiritual transformation.
