In a candid conversation with Graham Bensinger, the “Don't Wanna Go Home” hitmaker opened up about his earlier expectations of settling down young. He admitted that, at one point, he believed marriage would have come much sooner.
“I thought I was going to marry a lot of the girls I dated. Never in a million years did I think I would be 37 and single,” he said, reflecting on how his perspective has evolved over time.
According to Derulo, personal experiences and what he has witnessed in other relationships have significantly shaped his current outlook. He spoke frankly about the instability he has observed, describing moments that made him increasingly cautious about long-term commitment.
“I have seen too much in my life,” he explained. “You could imagine the things that I have seen—married women leaving their spouses on the spot, leaving their men in the club. I have seen everything under the sun.”
His remarks point to a broader hesitation rooted not just in his own relationships, but in patterns he has noticed around him—experiences that have ultimately made him more guarded about marriage.
Over the years, Derulo’s love life has drawn public attention. He notably dated fellow singer Jordin Sparks for three years before their split in 2014. More recently, he was in a relationship with Jena Frumes, with whom he welcomed a son in 2021. However, the couple parted ways just months after their child’s birth.
While Derulo has not ruled out marriage entirely, his comments suggest a shift from youthful certainty to a more measured, experience-driven perspective—one shaped by both personal heartbreak and the realities he has witnessed behind the scenes of modern relationships.
