As humidity levels continue to climb across Nigeria—particularly during the rainy season and in coastal urban centres—concerns over indoor air quality, mold growth, and property damage are becoming more pronounced. In response, LG Electronics has introduced its Smart Dehumidifier to the Nigerian market, positioning the product as a practical solution for healthier and more comfortable indoor environments.

The new appliance, now available nationwide through Fouani showrooms, underscores LG’s strategy to deliver climate-responsive technologies tailored to local conditions. Designed for use in homes, offices, hospitality settings, and commercial spaces, the dehumidifier addresses the increasing need for effective moisture control in cities such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Kano, where high temperatures often combine with elevated humidity.

Engineered to extract up to 30 litres of moisture daily—equivalent to approximately 120 bottles of water—the unit is suited for environments prone to dampness. At its core is LG’s Dual Inverter Compressor technology, which automatically adjusts dehumidification intensity based on ambient humidity levels. This enables efficient performance while helping to reduce energy consumption, a key consideration for cost-conscious consumers.

Beyond moisture removal, the Smart Dehumidifier incorporates a HEPA H13-grade Safe Plus Filter designed to improve indoor air quality by reducing dust, allergens, bacteria, and other airborne particles commonly associated with humid conditions.

Speaking on the launch, Joonkyu Song, General Manager, Eco Solutions at LG Electronics Nigeria, said the product reflects the company’s understanding of evolving consumer needs. He noted that while many Nigerians experience the discomfort of high humidity, its long-term effects on health, air quality, and household assets are often underestimated. According to him, the new dehumidifier is designed not only to enhance comfort but also to support healthier living and protect indoor spaces.

The appliance operates at a low noise level of approximately 33 decibels, making it suitable for use in bedrooms, offices, and shared living areas without disruption.

LG is introducing two models—the 34L (DD20GMWE1) and 28L (MD16GQWE0)—both equipped with the dual inverter system for adaptive performance and energy efficiency. The units also feature LG ThinQ™ technology, allowing users to remotely monitor and control humidity levels via smartphone. Through the platform, users can schedule operations, track energy usage, and receive alerts when the water tank is full.

In terms of design and usability, the dehumidifier includes mobility and convenience features such as a waist-level push-and-pull handle, 360-degree caster wheels, and a transparent water tank for easy monitoring. Additional accessories, including specialised hoses for drying shoes and closets, further enhance its functionality in enclosed spaces.

Mohamed Hobballah, a showroom manager at Colours by Fouani Nigeria Limited in Victoria Island, said the product responds to growing consumer interest in indoor wellness solutions. He added that customers can access demonstrations, technical support, and after-sales services at Fouani outlets nationwide.

Health experts have also welcomed the introduction, noting its relevance in regions where excess moisture affects walls, fabrics, and furniture. Dr. Eniola Oni of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, highlighted the health implications of prolonged exposure to damp environments, including respiratory issues and allergies caused by mold and mildew. She described the dehumidifier as a timely solution that empowers households to better manage indoor conditions.

The launch further strengthens LG’s footprint in Nigeria’s smart home and wellness segment, reinforcing its commitment to delivering innovations that address real-life environmental challenges.
