The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, stated in a Monday release that while the statutory deadline for filing individual tax returns is March 31 each year, the extension is designed to allow taxpayers additional time to complete their returns accurately.
Dr. Subair emphasized the importance of timely compliance, urging residents to make the filing of annual returns a routine personal responsibility. “Tax compliance should not be seen as a one-off task but as an integral part of financial planning and civic duty,” he noted.
The LIRS Chairman also reminded taxpayers that the eTax platform remains the exclusive channel for submitting returns. Manual filing has been fully phased out, meaning all individual returns must now be filed online through the secure portal at https://etax.lirs.net.
Describing the eTax platform as user-friendly, secure, and available around the clock, Dr. Subair advised taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TIN) is accurately captured when submitting returns.
For further assistance, LIRS has made multiple support channels available to taxpayers, including physical offices, social media, email, and a dedicated hotline:
- Website: www.lirs.gov.ng
- Facebook & LinkedIn: Lagos State Internal Revenue Service
- Instagram & YouTube: @lirsgovng
- X (formerly Twitter): @lirs_govng
- Email: etaxinfo@lirs.net
- Customer Care Hotline: 0700-CALL-LIRS (0700-2255-5477)
The extension aims to reduce last-minute filing pressure and improve compliance, reinforcing LIRS’s ongoing efforts to simplify tax administration in Lagos State.
