Veteran Shaffy Bello has shared details of a deeply personal decision she made decades ago to stop having more children, revealing that she underwent a permanent birth control procedure.
The Nollywood actress disclosed this during a recent discussion on her YouTube platform, Shaffy Bello TV, where she reflected on her experiences with motherhood and the choices that shaped her family life.
According to Bello, she opted for a Tubal ligation—a surgical method that involves tying the fallopian tubes—about 26 years ago after deciding she did not want a large family. She explained that the procedure permanently prevents pregnancy by blocking the release of eggs needed for fertilisation.
The actress noted that her decision was not influenced by external pressure but was a conscious choice about the kind of life and family she envisioned for herself. She added that while her former husband had hoped for more children, she remained resolute.
Providing insight into the process, Bello said the surgery was performed through her navel, after which her fallopian tubes were tied, effectively ending her ability to conceive.
She emphasised that she had always been certain about her stance on family size and expressed no regrets about the decision. In a light-hearted remark, Bello added that if she were to become pregnant after the procedure, she would consider it nothing short of miraculous.
Her comments have sparked conversations around family planning, personal autonomy and reproductive choices, particularly among women navigating similar decisions.
