The broadband provider explained that the system leverages rewarded advertising technology integrated with Google Ad Manager. Users can voluntarily view brief advertisements before receiving temporary internet access, creating a mutually beneficial model that supports both consumers and brands.
How the Service Works
Under the new model, individuals connecting to a Tizeti hotspot are presented with the option to watch a short video advertisement to unlock a set amount of data. Users who participate can earn additional data through repeated viewing sessions, giving them continued access without immediate payment.
Tizeti highlighted that this approach offers advertisers a highly engaged audience. Unlike traditional display ads, the opt-in format encourages stronger attention and higher completion rates, providing brands with measurable engagement across a growing digital user base.
Expanding Digital Access
According to Nsikak Asuquo, West Africa Manager at Tizeti, the service aligns with the company’s broader mission to expand digital access in the region. “Reward-based internet access will help remove financial barriers for many users while providing brands with a powerful channel to reach large online audiences,” he said.
Tizeti reported that its Wi-Fi network now ranks among the largest ad-supported connectivity platforms in Africa, with more than 2.5 million active users already accessing services through its hotspot infrastructure. Locations include residential neighbourhoods, commercial hubs, university campuses, and other high-traffic urban areas.
Industry Potential
Analysts project that Africa’s digital advertising market could grow rapidly, with programmatic ad spending expected to reach around $4 billion in 2025 and surpass $5 billion by 2028. The integration of Google Ad Manager allows brands and agencies to run campaigns through multiple channels, including open auctions, private marketplace deals, direct reservations, and guaranteed placements.
Tizeti emphasized that participation in the rewarded advertising model is voluntary and compliant with data protection laws in both countries, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the Ghana Data Protection Act. Built-in privacy safeguards ensure user data is protected while enabling targeted advertising.
Looking Ahead
The launch reflects Tizeti’s strategy to address affordability challenges while connecting advertisers with millions of digital users. As demand for internet access continues to grow across West Africa, the company expects its ad-supported Wi-Fi model to play a key role in widening access and fostering digital inclusion.
