Organised by Uganda’s embassy in Denmark under the theme “Building Sustainable Tourism Partnerships and Linkages,” the symposium brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including government officials, tourism boards, travel trade professionals, media representatives, and strategic partners eager to explore opportunities in Uganda’s tourism sector.
Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), tour operators, and hotel owners took part, showcasing the country’s diverse offerings—from world-class wildlife safaris and adventure tourism to rich cultural heritage experiences and sustainable travel initiatives. Through presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, participants underscored Uganda’s potential as a competitive and sustainable tourism destination in Africa.
Daniel Irunga, Senior Brand Officer at UTB, highlighted the country’s commitment to forging stronger business links with Nordic travel stakeholders.
“Destination Uganda is committed to deepening business partnerships with Nordic and Scandinavian tour operators and travel advisors, while positioning the country as a safe, competitive, and sustainable destination for Nordic travellers,” he said.
The symposium also created a platform for business-to-business engagements, encouraging collaborations aimed at increasing tourist arrivals from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Delegates had the opportunity to explore joint ventures, marketing initiatives, and sustainable tourism programs that could benefit both regions.
Uganda’s Ambassador to the Nordic and Baltic regions, Margaret Otteskov, stressed the importance of tapping into emerging tourism markets.
“The Nordic market is characterised by a strong outbound travel segment with growing interest in authentic, nature-based, and socially responsible tourism experiences. Through economic and commercial diplomacy, we remain committed to strengthening Uganda’s presence in the region,” she noted.
The event drew participation from key industry players, including the Uganda Tourism Association, Uganda Hotel Association, and private sector operators such as Crystal Safaris, Dory’s Tours, Emburara Safaris, Sites Travel, and Africa Addict Safaris.
The inaugural symposium represents a significant step in Uganda’s strategy to expand its global tourism footprint, highlighting the country’s ambition to attract more visitors from Nordic and Baltic markets while promoting sustainable and responsible travel.
