Turkish giants Galatasaray have confirmed that star striker Victor Osimhen has successfully undergone surgery to repair a fractured right forearm.

The Nigerian international sustained the injury during the first half of Galatasaray’s 4-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on March 18. The fracture, resulting from a mid-air collision with defender Ibrahima Konaté, did not prevent Osimhen from completing the first half, though he was replaced by Noa Lang at halftime.

A club statement released yesterday confirmed that the operation was performed by club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul. While no official return-to-play date has been announced, both medical experts and Osimhen have indicated a likely recovery period of four to six weeks. Speaking in a social media livestream over the weekend, the 27-year-old said: “I need to have surgery to fix it because my arm is broken. It will take a maximum of five to six weeks… and I will be back to football.”

Osimhen, who has scored 19 goals across all competitions this season, is expected to miss upcoming Süper Lig fixtures against Trabzonspor, Göztepe, Kocaelispor, and Gençlerbirliği, as well as a Turkish Cup quarter-final.

Despite the setback, Galatasaray officials remain optimistic that he will recover in time for the high-profile Intercontinental Derby against rivals Fenerbahçe on April 26, with club sources suggesting a “90% probability” of his availability for that crucial match.

Following the procedure, Osimhen received visits from Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek and head coach Okan Buruk, underscoring the club’s support for the striker during his recovery.
