Nigerian singer Waje, born Aituaje Vivian Ebele Iruobe, has candidly shared her past struggles with body image and how she learned to embrace her physique. Speaking on the Her Next Chapter podcast, hosted by Tope Olowoniyan, the 44-year-old revealed that she once went to extreme lengths to hide her upper body, including wearing multiple bras at once in her 20s due to insecurity.
“Even before I had my child, I have always been heavy at the top. I used to hide it. In my 20s, I used to wear like three bras. I used to be very uncomfortable about how heavy I was at the top,” Waje admitted, highlighting the discomfort she felt during her early career.
Over time, the music star explained, her perspective shifted. Motherhood played a pivotal role in reshaping how she viewed her body, helping her develop a deeper sense of self-acceptance.
Waje also credited the support of close friends, including rapper M.I and professional dancer Kaffy, for helping her build confidence and develop resilience against negative comments. Through their encouragement, she said, she was able to grow a “thick skin” and embrace her natural physique.
Her reflections shed light on the pressures faced by women in the entertainment industry and the journey many undergo to reconcile public expectations with self-acceptance. Waje’s story serves as both a candid revelation and an inspiring reminder of the power of self-confidence and support systems.
