Nigerian comedian and content creator Woli Arole has recounted a startling encounter with an attempted scam disguised as a generous gift, using the experience to caution the public about increasingly deceptive schemes.

Sharing the story via his Instagram page, Arole revealed that he was contacted by an individual who claimed to have received divine instruction to gift him a brand-new jeep located in Togo. The message, he noted, initially appeared convincing and even felt like a rare stroke of luck.

However, the situation quickly raised suspicion when the sender requested a payment of ₦400,000, allegedly to cover the cost of a driver who would deliver the vehicle to Nigeria. As an alternative, Arole was told he could travel to Togo himself to take possession of the car.

Recognising multiple red flags in the proposal, the comedian said he declined the offer, describing the request as a clear attempt to defraud him.

Reacting with a mix of humour and caution, Arole highlighted how the promise of sudden rewards can cloud judgment and make individuals susceptible to scams. He stressed that even seemingly convincing narratives—especially those framed around goodwill or divine intervention—should be approached with skepticism.

The comedian added that the incident serves as a timely reminder for Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with offers that appear too good to be true, particularly when they involve upfront payments or unusual conditions.
