Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has praised Afrobeats superstar Davido for elevating the profile of both the Adeleke family and Osun State on the global stage following a standout appearance at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.

The governor’s commendation came in the wake of Davido’s performance on the Gobi Stage, where the singer delivered a culturally rich set that blended contemporary Afrobeats with traditional Yoruba elements. A defining highlight of the performance was the inclusion of a Yoruba panegyric, known as oríkì, paying tribute to Ede—Davido’s hometown in Osun State.

Governor Adeleke took to social media platform X to share a video clip of the stage introduction, which featured striking red-and-yellow visuals, coordinated choreography, and pyrotechnic displays accompanying the recitation of the oríkì. He described the moment as a source of pride not only for the Adeleke family but also for the people of Osun State and their cultural heritage.

In his remarks, the governor noted that Davido’s international success continues to spotlight the state and its traditions before a global audience. He characterized the Coachella performance as another significant step in promoting Osun’s identity and cultural richness worldwide.

Davido stood out as the only Nigerian artist on the official lineup for the 2026 edition of the globally renowned music festival. During his set, he performed a selection of fan-favorite tracks, including Dami Duro, Skelewu, Aye, If, and With You, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience.

The performance also featured a collaborative moment with fellow Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold, who joined Davido on stage for a live rendition of their hit single High, further amplifying the presence of Nigerian music at the international event.

The governor’s praise underscores growing recognition of Afrobeats as a powerful cultural export, with artists like Davido playing a central role in bringing Nigerian music and heritage to global platforms.
