A curated evening of fire-led cuisine, rare whisky and meaningful connection, bringing together culture shapers at one table.

Johannesburg’s culinary and cultural elite gathered high above the city at Marble for an invite-only dining experience hosted by Johnnie Walker Blue Label’s Blue Society. More than a celebration of the whisky, the evening was a deliberate expression of what the Blue Society stands for: craftsmanship, connection, and a deeper, more meaningful form of luxury.

At the centre of the experience was acclaimed chef David Higgs, whose fire-led, contemporary South African cuisine set the tone for the night. Known for his intuitive approach to flavour and storytelling through food, Higgs curated a menu that mirrored the ethos of both Blue Label and the Blue Society itself; layered, refined, and deeply intentional. Each course became a conversation point, reinforcing the idea that true luxury lies in thoughtful detail and shared experience.

This same level of intention extended to the guest list. Cultural tastemakers and influential voices including Tshepi Vundla, Khanya Mkangisa, Siphosethu Nkosi, Damian de Canha and Boitumelo Nxumalo were brought together not just for their status, but for their role in shaping and reflecting contemporary luxury culture. Their presence underscored the Blue Society’s purpose: to convene a community of like-minded individuals who value depth, creativity, and cultural relevance.

Beyond the precision of the menu and the prestige of the setting, the evening revealed the true ambition of the Blue Society. This was not about spectacle for spectacle’s sake, but about cultivating meaningful connection, creating space for dialogue, and fostering a sense of belonging among those redefining modern luxury.

Speaking to this vision, Mpimy Mashimbye, Culture Marketing Manager for Premium Core at Diageo South, West & Central Africa, shared:

“We’re building a community around Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Luxury on its own is everywhere, but what gives it depth is meaning. At a certain level of success, people aren’t only looking for experiences, they’re also looking for connection, for belonging and for something that resonates beyond the moment.”

His words were reflected throughout the evening, evident in the way guests engaged not only with the food and whisky, but with each other. Conversations flowed as effortlessly as the pours, reinforcing the Blue Society’s role as a catalyst for connection.

The Johnnie Walker Blue Dinner stands as one of the key manifestations of the Blue Society, an invite-only collective that brings together voices across culinary, design, and culture to celebrate mastery in its many forms. Designed as an evolving ecosystem, the Blue Society offers its members access to curated experiences and luxury partnerships, extending beyond a single evening into an ongoing journey of connection, access, and cultural exchange.

In a world where luxury is often overexposed and underdefined, the Blue Society offers something more enduring. Here, luxury is not just seen or tasted, it is shared, experienced, and ultimately, felt.
