Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has sparked fresh conversation around fan culture in the music industry, suggesting that rivalry among supporters plays a significant role in sustaining the relevance of Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid and Davido.
Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the rapper argued that the long-standing competitive tension between both fanbases has, in his view, contributed to the artists’ continued dominance in the industry over nearly two decades.
He maintained that while artists themselves can maintain cordial relationships, the same harmony should not necessarily extend to their supporters, insisting that rivalry keeps the culture active and conversations around the musicians alive.
According to him, sustained public debate and competition among fans help keep artists trending and constantly in the spotlight, rather than allowing their influence to fade over time.
“Wizkid and Davido can never fade. That hatred is the reason why they will be relevant forever. When they love each other, it is over. Love is for children. Artists can love each other, but the fans should never love each other,” he said.
Blaqbonez further described himself as a naturally competitive artist, noting that he embraces rivalry as part of the entertainment ecosystem and creative drive within the industry.
