Nigerian influencer Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has responded to mounting criticism from some members of the public demanding refunds of donations made toward her cancer treatment.

The controversy follows her earlier announcement in January that she had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, prompting an appeal for financial support to cover surgery and related medical expenses. Her request, however, was met with skepticism in some quarters, with critics questioning the authenticity of her claims.

In a video shared on Thursday, the influencer defended her decision to seek funds early, explaining that it was a precautionary step taken before the full cost of treatment became clear. She added that her surgery has since been delayed due to the backlash, while additional tests and post-operative care are expected to increase overall expenses.

According to her, raising funds ahead of time was intended to prevent a more urgent appeal later, particularly if her condition worsened.

Addressing calls for proof, Blessing stated that she could not publicly release her medical records, citing privacy concerns. She also argued that such documents would be difficult for many people to interpret even if they were made available.

“If I show you the result, can you interpret it? Show me one cancer patient who came to the internet to show their results,” she said.

She further maintained that donations were voluntary, stressing that no one was compelled to contribute.

“If you do not trust me, do not give me your money. I did not put a gun to your head to give me your one naira,” she added.

The influencer also pointed to her past philanthropic activities, saying they justify her decision to seek public support in a time of need.

Despite her defence, reactions online remain divided, with some supporters expressing sympathy while others continue to question the transparency of the fundraising effort.
