Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has revealed why she has chosen to remain single years after her divorce, stressing that her son’s well-being now plays a central role in her relationship decisions.
In a candid video shared with her followers on Friday, the former Tinsel star said that while she has met “amazing men,” her priorities have shifted significantly as a mother.
According to her, single parents must approach dating with greater caution, as any potential partner is not just a romantic choice but also a parental figure in a child’s life.
“If you are a single mother or raising a child on your own, your decision-making has to be different,” she said. “You are not just choosing a partner for yourself anymore; you are choosing a second parent for your child.”
Adegbite explained that beyond attraction or compatibility, she now evaluates whether a prospective partner possesses the values, morals, and character she would want her child to be exposed to while growing up.
She emphasised that creating a stable and nurturing home environment takes precedence over building a romantic relationship, urging other single parents to be intentional in their choices.
“Do they have the morals, the values, and the character that I would like my child to grow up around?” she asked, advising parents to “choose wisely.”
The actress was previously married to Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh. The pair met on the set of Tinsel and welcomed their son, Brian, in September 2014 before their marriage ended in 2017.
Since then, Adegbite has largely kept her personal life private, but her recent comments offer insight into the considerations shaping her life as a single mother.
