The announcement came during bilateral discussions with Emmerson Mnangagwa, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to deepening continental integration. “Effective 25th May 2026, Africans travelling to Ghana will receive their e-visas online, free of charge,” Mahama said. He added that Ghana already maintains a visa-free arrangement with Zimbabwe, allowing citizens to travel between the two countries without a visa.
While the visa fee will be waived, the government emphasized that security protocols will remain stringent. Mahama assured that robust screening systems are in place to evaluate all applicants before travel authorization is granted, ensuring that the policy does not compromise national security.
Ghana joins a small group of African nations, including Rwanda, Seychelles, and The Gambia, that currently offer visa-free access to all African visitors. The move is expected to boost tourism, business, and people-to-people connections across the continent.
