Streaming platform Kava TV has attributed recent loading and access issues to an unprecedented spike in user activity following the release of the blockbuster film Behind The Scenes, highlighting the growing global appetite for Nollywood content.

The platform disclosed in a statement shared via its official Instagram page on Sunday that the surge in traffic briefly strained its servers, as thousands of users attempted to access the film simultaneously. According to the company, the spike marks one of the highest engagement levels recorded on the platform.

Kava TV reassured viewers that its technical team had swiftly intervened, working round the clock to stabilise the system and expand capacity. The company later confirmed that services had largely returned to normal, restoring seamless streaming for users.

The disruption coincides with the remarkable success of Behind The Scenes, which currently ranks as the number one title on Netflix for African audiences in Nigeria, while also leading viewership charts on Kava TV among international users.

Beyond streaming milestones, the film has delivered strong commercial results across multiple markets. It grossed £159,000 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, emerging as the highest-grossing Nollywood release in those territories. In Nigeria, it recorded an impressive N2.7 billion at the box office, cementing its position among the industry’s top-performing titles.

Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie has been described as a “record-breaking run” and a significant milestone for African cinema, reflecting Nollywood’s expanding global footprint.

The film features a star-studded cast led by Scarlet Gomez, alongside Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, and Mr Macaroni.

Behind The Scenes explores themes of fame, success, and the emotional toll of public admiration, with particular attention to “black tax”—the financial and social obligation to support extended family. Its relatable storytelling and strong performances have resonated widely with audiences, driving both its box office dominance and streaming success.

The film’s continued momentum underscores the rising influence of Nollywood on the global stage, as African stories increasingly attract international viewership and commercial acclaim.
