Tensions appear to be brewing within Nollywood as actor and filmmaker Olaide Olabanji publicly called out actress Mercy Aigbe over what he described as a painful breakdown in their relationship.

In a recent interview with media personality Oyinmomo, Olabanji alleged that he played a pivotal role in introducing Aigbe to the film industry. Recounting events from 2004, he claimed he discovered her at a shop, asked if she could act, and subsequently gave her an opportunity that marked the beginning of her Nollywood journey.

According to him, their relationship has since deteriorated significantly. Olabanji expressed disappointment over what he perceives as a drastic change in Aigbe’s attitude following her rise to fame, alleging that she has cut off communication with him, including blocking him on social media.

He further claimed that their interactions in public are now strained, describing her demeanor as distant and unwelcoming whenever they encounter each other. The filmmaker went as far as alleging that the actress harbors deep resentment toward him.

As of now, Aigbe has not publicly responded to the accusations.

The situation has sparked conversation about relationships in the entertainment industry, particularly around mentorship, loyalty, and how success can sometimes reshape personal and professional ties.
