The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for donating 50 buses and 30 tricycles to the institution, describing the gesture as a major boost to student welfare and campus transportation.

In a statement issued in Ile-Ife by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution said the donation reflects the First Lady’s enduring commitment to improving the living and learning conditions of students, particularly in easing mobility challenges across the expansive campus.

The university noted that the addition of the buses and tricycles is expected to significantly reduce transportation difficulties faced by students and staff, while enhancing accessibility within the school environment. It described the intervention as timely and impactful, especially given the increasing demand for efficient campus transit.

OAU also acknowledged the role of the Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, whose support was instrumental in facilitating the delivery of the vehicles. The institution praised his continued commitment to advancing education and student welfare in the community.

While expressing optimism about the benefits of the new transport system, the university appealed for patience and understanding from students and members of the campus community as the initiative is being fine-tuned. Management noted that, like any new system, the rollout may experience initial operational challenges.

According to the statement, efforts are already underway to address these issues through route optimisation, improved scheduling, and other operational adjustments aimed at ensuring efficiency, safety, and maximum benefit for users. The university assured stakeholders that all concerns raised would be carefully reviewed and resolved in due course.
