Concerns sparked online over a recent TikTok video featuring Nigerian model Olajumoke Orisaguna have been firmly dismissed by the media personality, who says the clip was misinterpreted and intended purely for entertainment.
The video, which quickly circulated across social media platforms, showed Olajumoke singing what appeared to be a freestyle performance. While some viewers engaged with it lightheartedly, others began speculating about her wellbeing and lifestyle, with unverified claims suggesting she may have taken to smoking or consuming alcohol. The interpretations triggered widespread debate and concern among fans familiar with her public journey.
Responding directly through her Instagram account on Monday, the mother of two expressed frustration over the assumptions, insisting that the reactions went far beyond the intent of the content. She clarified that the clip was not a reflection of her personal habits or state of mind, but rather a creative expression meant for social media engagement.
“I’m not happy about the comments I saw on my video. Some people were saying that I now smoke and drink alcohol. Why would anyone think that about me? It was just content. I know some people understood that, but it was only content,” she said.
Olajumoke strongly rejected the allegations, stressing that her upbringing and personal values are inconsistent with substance use. She further appealed to the public to avoid attaching a false identity to her based on a short online clip.
“I don’t smoke or drink, I wasn’t raised that way. Please, I’m begging you all, don’t give me a reputation that isn’t mine. Even when I go to parties and I’m offered a drink, I simply leave it on the table,” she added.
She also clarified that the audio used in the viral video was not originally hers, noting that social media content often involves repurposed sounds and creative reinterpretation that can be easily misunderstood when taken out of context.
“Please understand, it was all just content. Even the song I was singing is not mine,” she explained.
Olajumoke Orisaguna first rose to national prominence in 2016 after an accidental encounter with British rapper Tinie Tempah during a photoshoot in Lagos. The moment, captured by photographer TY Bello, transformed her life dramatically, taking her from selling bread on the streets of Lagos to becoming a widely recognized public figure and fashion model.
Her sudden rise led to appearances in advertising campaigns, runway shows, and media features, where she became a symbol of unexpected opportunity and social mobility. However, after several years in the spotlight, she gradually stepped away from mainstream visibility, prompting public curiosity about her personal and professional trajectory.
In 2024, she made a return to public life through broadcasting, launching a radio talk show titled Kilon Shele, where she began openly discussing her life experiences. Her conversations have included reflections on challenges with management, as well as personal struggles, including accounts of an abusive marriage with her former husband.
The recent episode surrounding her viral TikTok video adds to ongoing conversations about how public figures are interpreted on social media, particularly when short-form content is removed from context and amplified by speculation.
