From Legal Expertise to Energy Strategy
Williams began his professional career in law and tax advisory, where he honed a deep understanding of regulatory systems, fiscal policies, and compliance frameworks. This experience laid the groundwork for his transition into the energy sector, where regulatory insight and financial acumen are critical. His focus quickly turned to gas commercialization and infrastructure, particularly targeting Nigeria’s domestic market.
By strategically positioning himself across the gas value chain—from sourcing to distribution—Williams gained operational expertise and strategic insight that would later define Tetracore’s trajectory. Over time, he has become a key player in Nigeria’s gas sector, supporting industrial growth, improving energy efficiency, and driving a shift toward cleaner energy.
Tetracore’s Role in Nigeria’s Gas Revolution
Through Tetracore, Williams has built one of the country’s largest gas trading portfolios, supplying over 90 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) to industrial users. This supply supports more than 300MW of embedded and industrial power generation, reducing dependence on diesel and providing reliable energy for manufacturers.
Williams’ vision extends beyond trading: Tetracore is a fully integrated energy company, encompassing midstream and downstream operations such as gas sourcing, trading, compression, distribution, logistics, and power generation. This vertical integration allows the company to maintain consistency, control supply chains, and meet the energy demands of industrial and commercial clients with high reliability.
Expanding Mobility Infrastructure with AutoGas
Tetracore has been a pioneer in Nigeria’s compressed natural gas (CNG) and AutoGas markets, deploying infrastructure along critical industrial corridors. Its facilities are strategically located to serve high-demand areas efficiently.
- Atakobo Auto CNG Facility – Delivering over 88,800 SCMD, it ensures gas availability along the Western-Southern corridor.
- Ibese Auto CNG Facility – Situated within the Dangote industrial complex, this facility supports large-scale logistics with high-performance mobile refueling units.
- Ogere Auto CNG Facility – Located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with a 60,000 SCMD capacity, it reinforces regional supply and supports industrial and fleet operators.
- Uwusan, Benin Facility – Under development with a planned capacity of 60,000 SCMD, it aims to expand access to cleaner, reliable energy for commercial and industrial customers.
These deployments not only improve operational efficiency for companies but also contribute to Nigeria’s energy transition, replacing diesel with cleaner natural gas and lowering carbon footprints.
Strengthening the Benin Industrial Gas Backbone
Tetracore has further reinforced industrial energy supply through a 45MMscfd piped gas city gate system in Benin City. This infrastructure serves one of the South-South region’s largest industrial clusters, supporting manufacturing and heavy industry while promoting cleaner fuel alternatives.
The Benin axis has become increasingly important for industrial and logistics activity. By establishing this infrastructure, Tetracore positions itself within a growing market for gas-powered industry and aligns with Nigeria’s national strategy for cleaner, more efficient domestic energy utilization.
Regional Expansion: Ghana and Cross-Border Integration
Williams’ vision extends beyond Nigeria. Tetracore has entered the Ghanaian market, introducing compressed natural gas solutions and pioneering virtual pipeline systems. These systems transport gas to areas without fixed pipelines, providing flexible, reliable access to industries previously underserved by energy infrastructure.
The Ghana operations are part of a broader strategy to interlink West African energy markets, enhancing cross-border distribution and supporting industrial growth across the region.
Industrial Expansion: Gas-to-Liquids and Urea Projects
Tetracore is also moving into gas-based industrial production. Planned Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) and ammonia-urea facilities aim to convert natural gas into usable fuels and fertilizers.
- The GTL plant will produce liquid fuels for domestic consumption and export.
- The urea facility will supply fertilizers for agricultural use, reducing import dependency and supporting local food production.
These initiatives represent a shift from energy distribution into value-added industrial manufacturing, diversifying Tetracore’s revenue streams and reinforcing its role in Nigeria’s broader industrial economy.
Power Infrastructure: The Atakabo Independent Power Plant
Tetracore is advancing power generation with the development of the Atakabo Independent Power Plant (IPP), a modular, gas-fired project designed to deliver reliable electricity to industrial and commercial clusters. The project will initially deploy an 80 km power distribution network (60 km x 33kV & 20 km x 11kV) to stabilize electricity supply and address gaps in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
Integrating Data Infrastructure
In a forward-looking move, Tetracore is developing a data center within its energy park in Ogun State, along the Atakabo–Ijebu Ode industrial corridor. Powered by embedded gas-generated electricity, the facility ensures reliability for digital operations while supporting SMEs, agro-processing, manufacturing, and logistics—bridging the gap between energy and technology.
Urban Gas Infrastructure and Distribution Networks
Tetracore has built extensive urban gas infrastructure spanning over 20 km. Notable projects include:
- UTESI Pipeline Distribution Network – Powered by a 40MMscfd City Gate Facility, serving over 14 manufacturers in Rongtai Industrial Park.
- Ikoyi–Victoria Island–Lekki Virtual Pipeline – Covering 4.1 km, it supplies high-demand commercial hubs including Viathan Group.
These networks reduce diesel dependence, improve operational efficiency, and advance Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy.
Recognition and Industry Acknowledgment
Williams’ achievements have garnered multiple accolades, including:
- Energy Icon of the Year Award (2025)
- Nigeria Domestic Gas Ambassador Award
- Innovative Gas Company of the Year
- Honorary Doctor of Business Administration
He also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Gas Distribution, influencing policy, infrastructure development, and promoting domestic participation in Nigeria’s gas sector.
A Visionary Leader Shaping Africa’s Energy Future
In five years, Olakunle Williams has grown Tetracore into a diversified, cross-border energy powerhouse spanning gas, power, and industrial production. His approach emphasizes execution, infrastructure development, and strategic positioning to create long-term impact.
From AutoGas facilities in Uwusan, Ibese, and Atakobo, to the 45MMscfd Benin city gate system, regional expansion into Ghana, and planned GTL and urea projects, Williams’ work exemplifies a structured, multi-segment approach to energy development. Through Tetracore, he continues to enhance industrial growth, improve energy accessibility, and promote regional integration—cementing his status as one of West Africa’s most influential figures in energy.
