Popular Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced that a petition he filed against relationship therapist Blessing Okoro, popularly called Blessing CEO, has been approved for investigation by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The development follows a wave of controversy triggered by Blessing CEO’s earlier claim that she was battling stage four cancer.

On March 25, 2026, the therapist shared an emotional video on Instagram in which she alleged she had been diagnosed with the advanced illness. In the now-viral clip, she appeared with shaved hair, attributing it to the effects of cancer, and later disclosed that she had begun selling off properties to fund treatment.

However, doubts emerged after the Nigerian Medical Association distanced itself from a histology report circulating online that had been linked to her case. The association stated that the document was allegedly altered from an original report belonging to another patient diagnosed with breast cancer.

The backlash intensified after Blessing CEO, who had initially shared the report to support her claims and solicit financial assistance, later retracted her statement. In a follow-up interview, she clarified: “I don’t have stage four cancer. That was a miscommunication.” She also disclosed that she received about ₦13 million in donations before deactivating her social media account.

Reacting to the incident, VeryDarkMan said he was compelled to act after personally donating money, believing the claim to be genuine. In a video posted on his Instagram page, he recounted how he was moved by her emotional appeal.

“I believed her because she shaved her hair and I felt compassion. On that very day, I didn’t have anything left in my account, but I still transferred money to her,” he said.

Expressing disappointment, VDM stressed that such claims could undermine support for individuals genuinely battling life-threatening illnesses. “There are a lot of people living with cancer. How can someone come out and joke with something like this?” he added.

He further confirmed that the petition has now been taken up by the police authorities for investigation, marking a new phase in the unfolding controversy.

The case continues to generate widespread public attention, raising questions about accountability, online fundraising, and the impact of misinformation on sensitive health issues.
