The hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc said the appointment aligns with its broader ambition to deepen expertise at the board level as it pursues sustained growth and consolidation of its position within Africa’s luxury hospitality sector.
Akinyemi joins the board following a distinguished tenure at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, where he most recently served as Group Deputy Managing Director. In that role, he oversaw the bank’s nationwide operations in Nigeria, covering corporate, business, and retail banking segments.
Chairman of Transcorp Hotels Plc, Awele Elumelu, described the appointment as timely, noting that the company is entering a critical phase of strategic expansion. She highlighted Akinyemi’s track record in building and scaling financial operations across Africa, expressing confidence that his experience would contribute significantly to board deliberations and long-term value creation.
The company added that the appointment remains subject to ratification by shareholders at its next general meeting.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Akinyemi brings extensive experience across Nigeria’s financial services landscape, including investment banking, capital markets, and strategic business leadership. He is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and holds memberships in the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.
He earned a degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University and has completed executive education programmes at globally renowned institutions, including the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard Business School.
