The Managing Director of the Edo State Broadcasting Service (EBS), Sulaiman Aledeh, has resigned from his position just hours after being redeployed by the Edo State Government to the Edo State Orientation Agency.

The development followed an official announcement by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor, who disclosed that Aledeh had been appointed as the pioneer Director-General of the newly established Edo State Orientation Agency with immediate effect.

In the same announcement, the government named Festus Alenkhe as Acting Managing Director of EBS. Alenkhe, who currently serves as Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, is expected to oversee the affairs of the state-owned broadcaster pending the appointment of a substantive managing director.

According to the government, the changes are part of a broader effort to reposition key institutions and improve efficiency across the state's public service.

“The governor’s decision forms part of ongoing administrative adjustments designed to optimise resource management and strengthen institutional capacity across critical sectors of the state’s administration,” the statement said.

The government further explained that Aledeh's redeployment was informed by confidence in his professional competence and his ability to drive the objectives of the Orientation Agency.

“The redeployment reflects the government’s recognition of Mr Aledeh’s professional expertise and capacity to advance the mandate of the Orientation Agency—an institution critical to civic engagement, values promotion, and public communication strategy across Edo State,” the statement added.

Officials also praised Aledeh's tenure at EBS, noting his contributions to public broadcasting and institutional growth.

“During his tenure at EBS, Mr Aledeh demonstrated considerable dedication to public service broadcasting and institutional development. The state government commends him for his outstanding contributions to the broadcasting sector and wishes him continued success in his new assignment.”

However, in a surprising twist, Aledeh declined the new role and instead opted to step down from public service entirely.

In his resignation letter, the veteran broadcaster stated that his decision was driven by personal and professional considerations.

“The decision was to enable me devote my attention to the next phase of my professional journey as a media practitioner and to pursue other endeavours as a private citizen.”

Aledeh's resignation brings an abrupt end to his leadership of EBS and opens a new chapter in his media career. His departure also leaves the Edo State Government with the task of determining the future leadership of the newly created Orientation Agency, while Alenkhe assumes interim responsibility for the state's broadcasting service.
