The recently concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) once again spotlighted the growing influence of Africa’s entertainment industry—and Diageo positioned itself firmly at the center of that momentum, reinforcing its commitment to “advancing African culture, creativity, and economic empowerment.”

Through a layered, portfolio-driven sponsorship approach, the global beverage company activated multiple brands across key touchpoints at the event, shaping not just the glamour of the awards night but also the wider ecosystem that sustains filmmakers, performers, vendors, and creative entrepreneurs across the continent.

At the top of the sponsorship structure, Don Julio led as Headline Sponsor, reinforcing what the company described as the brand’s premium identity and cultural alignment with one of Africa’s most prestigious entertainment showcases. The tequila brand’s presence underscored Diageo’s strategy of pairing luxury positioning with culturally significant moments.

Guinness took charge of the celebratory energy as Official Beer Sponsor, extending its footprint beyond branding into live entertainment. The AMVCA after-party featured performances from top artists including Benson, Fave, Tiwa Savage, and Odumodu Black, transforming the night into a fusion of awards prestige and music-driven celebration.

Across the spirits portfolio, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Black Label, and Blonde were integrated into key award moments, strengthening Diageo’s premium whisky positioning. Meanwhile, The Singleton offered guests a more curated experience through its exclusive Escape Lounge, designed as a refined hospitality space within the event environment.

Cultural expression remained a central theme for Orijin, which sponsored the AMVCA Cultural Day, aligning its brand identity with African heritage, storytelling, and creative authenticity. Malta Guinness maintained steady visibility throughout the celebration as the Official Malt Drink, anchoring the non-alcoholic category presence across the multi-day event.

Speaking on the partnership, Adebayo Alli, General Manager, Diageo, said:

“At Diageo, we recognize that culture is a powerful driver of connection, creativity, and economic opportunity. Our involvement with AMVCA reflects our commitment to supporting platforms that celebrate African excellence while also contributing meaningfully to the growth of the creative economy and the communities connected to it.”

Adding a broader industry perspective, Segun Ogunleye, Head of Marketing Africa Partner Markets, Diageo, stated:

“AMVCA has become one of Africa’s most important cultural moments, and we are proud to be part of a platform that continues to elevate storytelling, talent, entertainment, and innovation across the continent. Through our brands, we are creating experiences that resonate deeply with consumers while supporting an industry that continues to shape Africa’s global cultural influence.”

Beyond the glitz of the ceremony, the AMVCA continues to function as a major economic engine for Nigeria’s creative sector. Filmmakers, fashion designers, makeup artists, production crews, hospitality providers, content creators, and media professionals all benefit from the ripple effects of the event, which generates opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises and strengthens value chains within the creative economy.

Diageo’s participation also reinforced its long-standing strategy of investing in platforms that elevate African storytelling and foster meaningful cultural engagement with audiences. Senior executives from across the company and its portfolio brands further demonstrated this commitment by presenting key award categories during the ceremony, adding a corporate presence to one of the continent’s most-watched entertainment nights.

Overall, the AMVCA activation highlighted the breadth of Diageo’s brand portfolio while positioning the company not just as a sponsor, but as a stakeholder in Africa’s evolving cultural and creative economy—where entertainment, enterprise, and identity increasingly intersect.
