The Lagos State Government has sealed off a branch of Domino’s Pizza located at No. 38B, Freedom Way in Lekki, Eti-Osa, after allegations that untreated sewage was being discharged into the surrounding environment and public drainage system.

The enforcement action was confirmed by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement shared via his official X account on Tuesday.

According to the state government, the closure followed a resident’s complaint and a subsequent inspection by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office.

The investigation reportedly found that the outlet’s septic system had become overfilled, leading to the release of untreated waste into nearby drains.

“Following a complaint received from a concerned resident and a thorough investigation, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Wednesday 12th May, 2026, sealed-off Dominion Pizza at No. 38B, Freedom Way, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over indiscriminate discharge of untreated sewage from its chamber due to an overfilled septic tank into the environment and public drains, causing environmental nuisance, offensive odour, as well as endangering human health,” the statement read.

Officials said the situation created an environmental hazard, including foul odour and potential public health risks for residents and businesses in the vicinity.

Government intensifies sanitation enforcement in Lagos

The commissioner warned that the state would continue strict enforcement of environmental regulations, particularly around wastewater management, especially in densely populated commercial and residential corridors like Lekki.

He stressed that property owners, managers, and businesses are expected to comply with proper sanitation standards or face penalties.

“@followlasg reiterates the need for residents and property managers to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices, noting that any individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be meted with appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the enabling laws,” he stated.

Residents were also encouraged to report environmental violations directly to state authorities using dedicated hotlines: 08022022397 and 07025332163.

Part of broader crackdown on environmental violations

The closure of the Lekki outlet is part of a wider enforcement campaign by the Lagos State Government targeting illegal waste disposal and sewage mismanagement across the state.

In recent months, similar regulatory actions have been taken against estates, hospitality venues, and event centres found violating environmental sanitation laws.

Officials say the goal is to reduce pollution, protect public health, and improve urban sanitation standards in rapidly growing districts such as Lekki and other high-density areas of Lagos.
