The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA 2026), held at Eko Hotels & Suites on May 9, 2026, produced a defining moment for Nollywood as Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman delivered a historic clean sweep that instantly became the talking point of the night.

For over a decade, she has been regarded as one of Nollywood’s most consistent and emotionally precise performers. On this night, that reputation transformed into record-breaking achievement.

She became the first actress in AMVCA history to win both Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress in a Lead Role in the same edition of the awards — a feat that placed her at the centre of one of the ceremony’s most memorable milestones.

Her first victory came for her role in “The Herd,” a crime thriller directed by Daniel Etim Effiong in his feature directorial debut. Shortly after, she returned to the stage to receive the Best Actress in a Lead Role award for “The Serpent’s Gift,” completing a rare double triumph that electrified the audience.

The wins came in a highly competitive category featuring some of Nollywood’s most established figures, including Bimbo Akintola, Sola Sobowale, and Scarlet Gomez, making her achievement even more striking.

Visibly emotional during her acceptance speeches, she expressed gratitude to those who shaped her journey. She said:

“I prayed to God that I wanted a role that would challenge me,”

She also acknowledged her supporters, directors, and production teams, emphasising the collaborative effort behind her performances.

Organisers praised her contribution to the industry, describing her as:

“the woman who brought the most vibrant flavour to our screens this Year”

highlighting the emotional depth and versatility that defined her standout roles.

From Television Breakthrough to Nollywood Mainstay

Long before the historic AMVCA night, Ejiofor-Suleiman had already carved a strong path in Nigerian entertainment. She first gained widespread attention for her role as Bimpe Adekoya in the long-running M-Net series “Tinsel,” a performance that introduced her to millions of viewers across Africa.

Her earlier AMVCA recognition also came in 2015, when she won Best Supporting Actress for “The Meeting,” marking her emergence as one of Nollywood’s rising talents at the time.

Born in Lagos and originally from Isuikwuato in Abia State, she is the second of five children. Her early education took her from Ilabor Primary School in Surulere to Federal Government Girls’ College, Onitsha, before she studied Sociology at the University of Port Harcourt.

Over the years, she has built a reputation for emotionally layered performances, seamlessly moving between drama, romance, and thriller roles — a versatility that has kept her in demand across both film and television.

In her personal life, she became engaged to fellow actor Ibrahim Suleiman in 2018, and the couple married shortly after. They welcomed their son, Keon Iman Suleiman, in 2020.

A Career Defining Moment in a Growing Industry

Her double win at AMVCA 2026 represents more than individual success; it reflects the continued expansion and artistic maturity of Nollywood itself. As African cinema gains increasing global attention, performances like hers underscore the industry’s depth and storytelling strength.

With this historic achievement, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman has added a defining chapter to a career that continues to evolve alongside Nollywood’s rising international profile — one now marked not just by consistency, but by record-setting excellence.
