The decision followed the recommendation of the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee and was ratified by the NFF Executive Committee as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s youth football structure.
Maikaba has now been handed the responsibility of leading the Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, following years of experience across the domestic football scene. The respected coach is no stranger to youth football, having previously handled the Golden Eaglets and also served as assistant coach of the Flying Eagles during the tenure of former head coach Paul Aigbogun.
Widely regarded for his calm approach and tactical discipline, Maikaba has managed several top Nigerian clubs, including Enyimba FC, Wikki Tourists FC, Kano Pillars FC, and Plateau United FC.
One of the highlights of his managerial career came in 2017 when he guided Akwa United FC to victory in Nigeria’s oldest domestic football competition, now known as the President Federation Cup.
Meanwhile, Uwejamomere has been appointed head coach of the Golden Eaglets, Nigeria’s U17 boys’ national team and five-time FIFA U17 World Cup champions.
The newly appointed coach brings extensive technical and analytical experience to the role, having worked closely with the Super Eagles as a coach-analyst over the years. He also contributed to the technical crew of the Super Falcons.
Beyond national team duties, Uwejamomere currently serves as head of academy at Sporting Lagos FC, the Lagos-based club that recently secured promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
His coaching résumé also includes youth development roles in England with academies such as Millwall FC, Gillingham FC, and Nottingham Forest FC. He previously worked as head coach of Abeokuta-based Stormers FC.
The appointments are expected to usher in a fresh phase for Nigeria’s youth national teams as preparations begin for upcoming continental and international competitions.
