More than 1,000 students across several schools in Osun State have received educational support materials through OPay’s Play4aChild initiative, a community-driven intervention designed to improve access to learning resources and encourage inclusive education.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Do Good Charity Back-To-School Project, also extended support to 40 students living with disabilities, reinforcing the growing emphasis on equal educational opportunities for every child regardless of physical limitations or background.

Beneficiary schools included Osogbo Grammar School, Oloofa Grammar School, St. Georges’ Primary School, Special Needs Secondary School, Salvation Army Grammar School, and Union Baptist Primary School. Students received essential academic materials aimed at easing the burden on families while helping learners stay focused on their studies.

The intervention highlights OPay’s continued investment in social impact initiatives beyond financial technology services. Through Play4aChild, users of the OPay app are able to contribute to charitable causes simply by carrying out everyday digital activities on the platform. Actions such as paying utility bills, purchasing airtime and data, making merchant payments, and participating in in-app games generate reward points that are converted into donations for community projects.

Speaking on the impact of the programme, OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Itoro Udo, stressed the importance of education in nation-building and youth empowerment.

“Education remains one of the strongest tools for shaping the future of young people and communities. We are proud that, through the Play4aChild initiative, everyday activities carried out by our users on the app are having a meaningful impact on students who need support the most.”

She further noted that the success of the outreach in Osun State demonstrates how technology and community participation can combine to create sustainable social change.

“Seeing over 1,000 students, including 40 students with disabilities in Osun State, benefit from this intervention in partnership with Do Good Charity Back-To-School project is deeply encouraging for us, and it reinforces our commitment to creating opportunities that improve lives beyond financial services,” Udo added.

Representatives from the beneficiary schools described the intervention as timely, particularly at a period when many parents and guardians continue to face rising educational expenses. According to school officials, the donated materials are expected to boost students’ morale and improve classroom participation.

The Play4aChild initiative continues to stand out as a model for digital-driven philanthropy, allowing ordinary app users to become contributors to meaningful community development without making direct cash donations. By simply engaging with services already available on the app, users indirectly support educational and humanitarian projects across different communities.
