A disappointing outing on Saturday has not shaken Victor Osimhen’s belief in Galatasaray’s title ambitions, as the striker called on his teammates to remain focused after a heavy 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor.

The Nigerian forward admitted that the team fell short of expectations at the Canik 19 May Stadium, but insisted the loss would not derail their push for the championship.

A Game That Slipped Away

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray from Napoli last summer, had a mixed performance in the match. He made an early impact by assisting Yunus Akgün for the opening goal in the ninth minute, giving the visitors a promising start.

However, the momentum quickly shifted. Samsunspor responded strongly, and Galatasaray struggled to regain control of the game.

The situation worsened in the second half when a misplaced back pass from Osimhen contributed to the sending-off of goalkeeper Günay Güvenç, leaving the team further exposed.

“Nothing Has Changed”

Speaking after the match, Osimhen urged his teammates to put the defeat behind them and focus on what lies ahead.

“Let’s not dwell on this match. We must keep pushing forward,” he said.
“We need to secure a victory at home and claim the championship. Nothing has changed. The team will give its all. We’ll concentrate on the next match.”

He acknowledged the difficulty of clinching the title in that fixture, adding:
“We were aware that winning the title here would not be straightforward. Our performance was lacking as well. We will win our next home game and officially secure the championship. We apologize to the fans. We will move forward.”

Strong Season Continues

Despite the setback, Osimhen’s individual campaign remains impressive. The striker has recorded 20 goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions, underlining his importance to Galatasaray’s season.

With the title still within reach, the focus now shifts to their next home fixture, where Osimhen and his teammates will look to respond and finish their campaign on a high.
