The ruling, issued by the Los Angeles County Superior Court, requires 31-year-old William Applegate to remain at least 100 yards away from the singer, her sister Sarah Carpenter, and Sarah’s boyfriend, George, until the order expires.
The decision followed concerns over a series of incidents in which the suspect allegedly returned to Carpenter’s property multiple times despite previous police intervention.
According to court filings, Carpenter's legal team presented evidence, including security camera images that reportedly showed Applegate at the entrance of the singer’s home. The evidence formed part of the case supporting the request for a long-term protective order.
The court heard that Applegate was initially arrested on May 23, 2026, after allegedly attempting to force his way into the property. However, authorities said he returned to the residence on two separate occasions over the following days, prompting further police action.
The repeated visits heightened concerns about the safety of the singer and those close to her, ultimately leading to the request for additional legal protection.
During the hearing, Applegate reportedly opposed the restraining order, arguing that Carpenter herself did not support the application and claiming that people around the singer were responsible for pursuing the case.
The court, however, was not persuaded by the arguments presented by the defendant.
After reviewing the evidence and hearing submissions from both sides, the judge dismissed the objections and approved the permanent restraining order, which will remain in effect for the next five years.
The ruling represents a significant legal safeguard for Carpenter and her family members, reinforcing measures designed to prevent further unwanted contact or attempts to approach them.
Neither Carpenter nor her representatives have publicly commented on the court's decision following the hearing.
