Kalene Oliver Celebrates Successful Launch of She’s a Hot Mess as Its Message of Resilience, Mental Health and Self Acceptance.
South African author, entrepreneur and mental health advocate Kalene Oliver officially celebrated the physical launch of her book, She’s a Hot Mess, at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, Cape Town on Saturday, 13 June 2026.
Following the book’s release on 26 May 2026, guests gathered for an intimate and thought-provoking afternoon centred around mental health awareness, neurodiversity, resilience and self acceptance. Hosted by acclaimed radio and television personality Saskia Falken, the event featured an author conversation, audience Q&A, book signing and meaningful engagement between Kalene and her readers.
For Oliver, the launch represented far more than the release of a book. “The launch was a celebration of resilience, growth and authenticity. It was a reminder that even the most unexpected chapters of our lives can lead to something meaningful,” says Kalene Oliver.
She’s a Hot Mess explores Oliver’s personal journey navigating ADHD, identity, mental health and the realities of living with a neurodivergent mind. Through candid storytelling, humour and vulnerability, the book encourages readers to challenge the labels they have carried and embrace the parts of themselves they once viewed as weaknesses.
“Writing this book was both therapeutic and challenging. It meant revisiting experiences that shaped me, confronting setbacks, and ultimately finding the courage to share my story with others. Seeing the book finally in readers’ hands was a surreal and emotional experience.”
One of the most memorable aspects of the event was the overwhelming response from attendees, many of whom shared how deeply the book’s themes resonated with their own experiences.
“What made the launch truly special was the opportunity to connect with people who saw parts of their own stories reflected in mine. Hearing attendees share how the message resonated with them reminded me why I wrote the book in the first place, to let people know that they are not alone in their struggles and that life’s messy moments do not define them.”
The event quickly sparked conversations across social media, with attendees praising the authenticity of the discussion and the impact of Oliver’s message.
Host Saskia Falken described the gathering as: “A room full of honest conversations, laughter, vulnerability and powerful reminders that the things we see as our weaknesses are often our greatest strengths.”
Attendee Sam Mhlana shared: “Having to hear how the book came to life and how much we all can discover parts of ourselves in it, beautiful.”
Another attendee commented: “What a beautiful and blessed event. It’s only the beginning.” Comments from guests described the launch as “beautiful”, “meaningful” and “inspiring”, highlighting the growing demand for conversations around mental health, ADHD and self-understanding in South Africa.
With the successful launch now complete, Oliver hopes the book continues to encourage readers to embrace their authentic selves, challenge stigma and recognise that healing often begins when we stop trying to fix ourselves and start understanding ourselves.
She’s a Hot Mess is now available for purchase directly through Kalene Oliver’s official website. The book continues to spark meaningful conversations around mental health, ADHD, neurodiversity and self-acceptance, with readers across South Africa already sharing how deeply its message resonates with their own personal journeys.
